That’s right. April seems to be the month of horror RPG movies- First with the Ao Oni Live Action announcement, and now with the Corpse Party series getting it’s own, announced April 27th. Corpse Party, a horror RPG survival series first getting its start in 1996, is now having two new additions to its family- Corpse Party: BloodDrive for PS VITA scheduled for July release, and now Corpse Party, a Live Action movie that’s “Coming Soon”, according to its poster.
Is it good news, or is it an ill sign of a future disappointment? Only time will tell for now, but for now, let’s take a look at the trailer and see what we can figure out from it.
Only Ayumi, Naomi, Seiko, and Mayu appear in this movie.

The Kisaragi Boys, Yuka, and Ms. Yui have all been scraped from production of this movie, as well as Byakudan kids and Mushigawa girls not appearing. Since Corpse Party is about 6-7 hours long to play, a reason why the characters might be out is because they might take up too much screentime during the movie, which is unfortunate but understandable.
This could mean that roles previously assigned to other characters will now be handed to one of the four girls, or the movie takes a Tortured Souls route and has a different turn of events from the games. Either way, character deaths seem to be the same, as you can see Seiko hanging in the trailer.
Having less than half the original cast of characters cuts out a lot from Corpse Party’s main plot and character attributes, and it may prove to be fatal if not executed correctly.
How is the gore?
Corpse Party is, well, CORPSE Party, and that means it’s got a fair amount of blood and gore in all installments. Does the movie live up to expectations?

From what we can see so far, that would be a YES, but also a slight no.
Sure, the gore may be hard to look at for people with weak stomachs, but when you face it head on, it really just looks like someone had a food fight with some chicken and meatloaf. I wouldn’t say it was terrible, but I wouldn’t say it was top notch either. You can barely make out which organ is which, or if its an intestine or someone’s skins stretched out. Is that bucket filled with bloodied parts or sloppy joe? Its not exactly impressive.
Can this movie’s acting live up to the game’s/anime's?
Yes, no, maybe so. For now, the acting of the movie dulls in comparison of the acting present in the games/anime. However, since this is the only trailer we’ve seen of it so far, it’s best not to make assumptions now, especially since a lot of it focused on Ayumi’s acting alone.

Although, Seiko’s dying face looks pretty bored compared to the original.
To wrap it all up, Corpse Party is a series that has high expectations due to great acting and plot line. With missing/nonexistent characters and lackluster gore, it might be hard for the movie to stand up to the game series and make an impact on audiences.
Once again, the date is “Coming soon”, so we don’t know when we’ll get another trailer, or IF we’ll get a new trailer. Hopefully, if we do, it’ll showcase more of the other characters and maybe introduce new ones- Its not like they’d get rid of the ghost children, right? …Right?
